Hypnosis for Insomnia
Insomnia is an inability to sleep properly, people complain of various types of difficulties that interfere with their ability to seep. Some people find it difficult to get to sleep tossing and turning in their bed for hours others find that they sleep lightly and wake up a number of times during the night at the slightest disturbance. A small group of people report that they wake up at an unusually early hour in the morning and then are unable to go back to sleep. The bottom line for most people who complain of difficulty with sleep is that they feel tired or sleepy through the day.
While there are many causes for insomnia caffeine (coffee, tea, colas, energy drinks) are a common cause. Reducing or eliminating it from the diet usually leads to an improvement in sleep. Getting up much earlier than usual in the morning is often is a sign of depression that needs treatment.
The most common cause for insomnia is anxiety often the person starts worrying that he or she will not be able to sleep and this sets up vicious cycle of insomnia and worry. In other cases people keep worrying about issues in their life and find that they are unable to sleep.
Self hypnosis is a very effective way of reducing anxiety and promoting good quality sleep. Will write more about this when i update this article in a few days.

Hypnotherapy for Stammering
For most people who stammer Speech therapy is the best option and this should be explored before anything else. The best way to find a good speech therapist is to ask an ENT surgeon for a recommendation.
Hypnosis can help with stammering especially for people who are very anxious and who tend to stutter or stammer in social situations where they are nervous. Hyposis works by reducing anxiety and providing the persons with skills to be more resourceful and effective in social situations. It also helps change inappropriate methods of speech. However with stammering it often takes a number of sessions to get results.
Hypnosis can also be used for people who have not responded to speech therapy here to one cannot expect instant cures it often takes time.
Past life therapy has little or no place in the treatment of stammering unless such issues spontaneously arise during therapy. In Mumbai many hypnotists mislead people who stammer offering past life therapy as a cure for all ills and therefore the buyer beware.
Solutions for Anxiety
The experience of Anxiety is very distressing to most people. I’ve noticed that in recent years the many more people in Mumbai are suffering due to anxiety.
In some cases anxiety can be due to a medical disorder such as an over active thyroid gland or low blood sugar. In many cases it’s due to stress or an unbalanced lifestyle rather than a psychiatric disorder. Unbalanced lifestyles have become the norm among young executives, long work hours, long commutes, short deadlines, little or no exercise, intense competition and politics at work all take their toll.
Following this they go home to watch Television or spend hour chatting or browsing on the net. leaving little time for sleep. Meetings with friends revolve around alcohol or caffeine a drug that trigger panic attacks. Tea, coffee, colas and even the so called energy drinks such as red-bull are a potent source of caffeine that leads to anxiety.
The sad thing is that when they go to consult their family physician they are likely to receive powerful psychoactive medication such as SSRI antidepressants. While it”s important to meet a doctor to eliminate the medical causes of anxiety there is no hurry to rush to take medication especially if the anxiety is mild.
People with mild anxiety attacks need to make lifestyle changes cut down on caffeine and ensure that they get adequate amounts of exercise, sleep and rest.
There are many practices such as meditation or yoga that can help reduce or even eliminate anxiety. However most busy executives in Mumbai find it difficult to make time for this and even if they start these practices stop after a short while.
Modern self-regulation techniques such as self-hypnosis are powerful relaxants and enjoyable are are easy to learn and only require a few minutes of practice at a time to help reduce stress and calm the person.
Mindfulness Based Therapy
Mindfulness meditation is a core Buddhist meditation technique that teaches one to be aware of thoughts and remain in the present. In it’s traditional for it helps develop an experiential understanding into the nature of reality and helps make one more spiritual.
In the last few decades Mindfulness meditation has been found to be helpful in healing a number of medical and psychological disorders. It is especially useful for control anxiety and pain. a number of schools of psychotherapy have been developed using the principles of mindfulness Mindfulness Based cognitive therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) are two of the better known ones.
Mindfulness based hypnotherapy is another approach enabling people to train their minds to become mindful in a much shorter time than traditional mind training programs and thereby making it much more accessable to busy people. Both for healing and spiritual growth.

Psychotherapy & Counselling in Mumbai
Am often asked the difference between a psychiatrist, psychotherapist and counselor. This is especially important in Mumbai as this is a largely unregulated field with many types of people offering therapy for psychological disorders.
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (mbbs) trained in psychological medicine. Psychiatrists usually prescribe medicines (psycho-pharmacology) and give advice. Some mumbai psychiatrists also practice psychotherapy. A psychiatrist is registered with the Indian Medical Council & in Mumbai with the Maharashtra Medical council. In addition to a medical degree a psychiatrist will have an M.D. (3 years post MBBS) or a diploma DPM (2yrs post MBBS).
A psychotherapist is a professional usually with post graduate degree in psychology (MA or PhD.) with training in psychotherapy. A psychotherapist helps people heal psychological issues using non drug psycho-therapeutic techniques. Psychotherapist also help people work on an improve their personality. Legally psychotherapist need to be registered with the Rehabilitation council of India.
(Caution there are a number of self styled psychotherapists with fraudulent MSc or Phd in psychotherapy obtained by correspondence, practicing in Mumbai. One calls herself best psychotherapist in Mumbai even certifies others as therapists).
Counselor (Counsellor) In Mumbai there are scores of counseling courses ranging from a MA in counseling (Mumbai University) to courses lasting a few months, weeks or days. Counseling is a lay activity and the role of the counselor is to actively listen to and help them find their own solutions to problems they face. A counselor is not equipped to offer to treat heal or cure and psychological disorders.
Hypnotherapist: Hypnotherapy is an effective method for healing psychological and physical disorders. Ethically a hypnotherapist should only use hypnosis for conditions he or she is legally entitled to use it for. For example a doctor with medical condition (Asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, pain etc) , a dentist for dental anesthesia, relief of oral pain, a psychologist for psychological disorders like depression. Unfortunately there are a number of organizations (with fancy foreign names such as Arizona or California) that certify people after a few short 3 day courses. Using this this certification these individuals get an RMP certificate from a society in Calcutta that has no legal validity but start calling themselves doctor. They then set themselves free on an unsuspecting public. Using methods such as past life therapy, crystal and spirit release therapy.
Psychoanalysts: Psychoanalysis is an antiquated method of therapy developed by Sigmund Freud in the early 1900′s. In Mumbai most psychoanalysts are lay practitioners. Across the world the use of psychoanalysis is dying out as it is not very effective as it takes years of sessions 5 times a week to achieve any kinds of results. Despite this a some people enamored by Freud’s writings seek psychoanalysis in Mumbai. I then recommend Mr Kaushik Gopal as he in my opinion is the best psychoanalyst in Mumbai. Apart from being trained as a psychoanalyst he has an MA in Clinical psychology from Mumbai University.
Hypno-analysis is much more effective than traditional psychoanalysis and enables one to explore and heal deeper issues than the older analytical methods.
Alternative therapies. Legally Homeopathy, Ayurveda and nature therapy are recognized by the Indian Government. Practitioners of these arts are registered and regulated by the Govt in the same way that medical doctors (MBBS) are.
Complimentary therapies: Complimentary therapies are methods that a person can use in addition to usual treatments to heal. Methods like Yoga, Reiki, pranic healing etc etc. As this is an unregulated field one needs to be careful as in addition to many sincere practitioners there are many charlatans preying on people. Do not get impressed by fancy advertisement, certificates or testimonials that con practitioners often use to promote themselves. Remember complimentary practitioners are rarely trained doctors and therefore not qualified to give you advice regarding medication or surgical procedures. Use your common sense while dealing with complimentary practitioners.
